12 years later, I completed my 7 strings
« on: February 03, 2020, 02:51:56 AM »
I used to be a hobbyist guitar maker.
In 2008 I made a 7 strings. I went near to complete. Laquer ok, I winded my own pickups, but first attempts showed I made some errors. Moreover the bridge was too high, the trem routing was not deep enough.  Put it in a case, and life goes on.
I recently reminded about this guitar. My son now plays more and more guitar and I though it would be a good idea to undig this "almost-completed" project.
Here it is, I put a pair of DiMarzio Evolution a friend gave me last year, rerouted the trem cavity, adjust the truss rod (invisible adjustment in the neck heel though a gotoh transfer box.
Neck through construction, light spruce body sides, lemonwood fretboard and nice maple leaf body top.   The guitar plays very well and guess what. My son quickly asked if he can try it. Now he barely puts it down. So happy to finally completed this axe.

Nice! I've never heard of a  lemonwood fretboard before.

It's not as brillant as maple, but can't really evaluate the impact of lemonwood on the sound.
At the time I built it, I had this lemonwood log, and it was hard enough for a fretboard, and the color was my taste, so I did it.

@Hubaxe - that's outstanding!  The guitar you built reminds me a little of my old Ibanez S-series 7-string.
